2007 featured Leviathan and Primal Fear – This year the upstairs Haunt that had previously been separated into two attractions was merged to create a much larger haunt called Leviathan. The theme was based on the Frankenstein legend with the creation of murderous flesh golems and an insidious plan to attack mankind. Primal Fear was a show encompassing as many of the deepest fears and phobias that one could possibly experience in a haunted house. This was one of the first years that NETHERWORLD was featured on the Travel Channel and it certainly wouldn’t be the last!

2006 featured Cursed, Shock O Rama in 3D and Freakpit – The 10 year anniversary of the haunt heralded the return of Maximillian Colber from the depths of the NETHERWORLD telling of the nightmares soon to unfold in the Cursed places of our earth. Lots of classic icon characters were featured in this show, a sort of a greatest hits of the previous decade. Shock-O-Rama in 3D delved into the craziness of pre-comics code “funny books” and Freakpit featured Dr. Bile’s collection of twisted circus performers taking up residence in Mann’s Slaughterhouse. If you look carefully you can still find cans of “Manns Meat” scattered around the haunt! NETHERWORLD appeared nationally on CBS this Morning, Halloween this year in a story on haunted attractions around the country, part of one of the first every National PR campaigns promoting the positive aspects of Haunted Houses. Once more thrust into the National spotlight, NETHERWORLDS fame continued to grow!

CURSED

There are places in the earth where foul deeds have ripped a gaping maw to the very world of the dead, and unseemly things have escaped from nighted pits. Such places are Cursed; blasted barren landscapes were no sane man should go. Enter now into the deserted Colber Estate, After 60 years, rogue inventor Maxmillian Colber has returned from the void to warn us of the end of the world, but does he seek to help mankind, or make sure that we are all CURSED forever?

In the 50’s Pre-Code Comics got a little crazy! Gibbering Ghouls, Savage Space Monsters, and Hungry Zombies ripped victims limb from limb in a frenzy of ghastly gore! But the vilest comic of all was Shock-O-Rama, a “funny book” that some said was based on real life occurrences…

At first no one cared when new owners purchased the abandoned Slaughterhouse. But when Dr. Bile’s Freak Pit and Museum of Oddities opened for business, it definitely turned a few heads…

2005 – NETHERWORLD Haunted House Year 9

Year 9 2005 featured 3 shows, Abomination, Terror on Tiki Island in 3D, and Slaughterhouse. In Abomination an aquatic warlord of the Dark Ones emerges from the ocean to lead monstrosities into battle! This show featured an incredibly complex creature suit, new massive animatronic monsters and a season that saw the success of the haunt continue to grow. The IAAPA entertainment expo was also in Atlanta this year and NETHERWORLD was able to open for the amusement industry and fellow haunters. Terror on Tiki Island in 3D featured amazing artwork that captured the beauty and horror of a lush tropical island gone mad, and Slaughterhouse explored the dark evil at work in the depths of a long abandoned meat packing facility.

What lurks in Mann’s abandoned meat processing plant?
Local teens say that the place, long ago closed for selling tainted meat, still runs on moonless nights. Some believe an inbred tribe of cannibal squatters hides in the twisted corridors, packing their latest victims into cans for later feasting!
Bribing the old security guard, you creep into this monument of urban decay, eager to uncover the secrets of the place. And you never return!

2004 was the year that NETHERWORLD’s most popular Icon Character would emerge – The Collector from SPIRITS OF THE DEAD! Featuring a more elaborate version of the classic creature Top Hat from our first year, this haunt would contain an ancient graveyard filled with tilted monuments and ghastly undead, the emergence of the cannibal clan the Bostwicks, and increasing large animations and special effects that would totally wow audiences. The Collector eventually became so popular that albums, T-shirts, hoodies, mugs, shot glasses, buttons and even a bobble head featuring his likeness would be created and eventually sell out! To this day he is the main icon character of NETHERWORLD, and is well known in Atlanta for the many billboards his grim visage has graced. Many guests are thrilled to encounter him in the parking lot and pose for a picture with this most famous of monsters!

This year also marked the return of the 3D attraction, this year called VERY SCARY TALES which contained a series of fractured fairy tales and legendary horrors themed on a twisted book of childhood fears.

The downstairs haunt remained very, very dark but added an element of massive gore and Hellraiser-like characters with the twisted nightmare world of OBLIVION. This edgy attraction would continue to be aimed at more mature audiences over the years to come, with more blood, grime and shocking elements that wouldn’t be seen in the other shows.

From its beginnings, NETHERWORLD was a well known attraction in the haunt industry, but after the success of the previous years Dark Harvest and THE HARVESTMAN, the 2004 shows catapulted to national fame after appearing on Top Ten lists and capturing the imaginations of other attraction owners. From this point forward NETHERWORLD became one of the most well-known Haunted Attractions in the USA with the COLLECTOR leading the charge!

SPIRITS OF THE DEAD

After the cemetery was flooded in 1932, Whyshburg Burial Grounds was purchased by the mysterious Professor Victor Chillighast, along with an old manor house and funeral home located on the property. A wealthy recluse, he is rumored to have performed strange rituals involving spirits of the dead…some say to prolong his evil life.

Others say he was never a man at all, but rather an agent of the Dark Ones called the Collector, sent to gather souls for his masters and open the doorway to the NETHERWORLD! Whatever foul secrets are hidden in the sunken tombs and hidden catacombs of Whyshburg, it is certain that many who have sought the truth there have never returned!

VERY SCARY TALES

Sam found the book one day in an old dug out hollow in the scary tree in his back yard. As dusk fell he began to read the stories: tales of hungry spiders and evil witches, smelly trolls and big bad wolves. Later that evening he dreamed he was looking at the tree and it was looking back…looking back with hungry eyes! That’s when it ate him. Then next morning, when the police were searching the neighborhood for the missing boy, no one thought to read the silver bound book by his night stand. If they had, they might have noticed the last story in the book called…THE NIGHT SAM WAS EATEN.
