Deeper Into Mr. Grendel’s Birthday Party Of Horrors!

Cryptid Chaos

As the Boogeyman began to feed on the dark energy of the trapped cryptids at the BOX, and the Alpha Cryptids started transforming the staff into Urban Legends to cause mayhem and escape their prisons, one last specimen was captured and teleported to the facility.

The Cryptid Crucible device was set to seek out “Dark Energy” and teleport it to a containment chamber allowing for the easy capture and incarceration of legendary creatures. The energy signature of the last specimen was a little “strange” but the onsite supervisor approved the capture and hit the button seconds before absolute chaos broke out.

The Specimen

The teleported creature was not a cryptid at all, but something else entirely. Known to our investigators as “Mr. Grendel” they seem to have caught something very unexpected in their nets. Mr. Grendel is known to some in the agency as the proprietor of a traveling carnival that pops up occasionally and is often associated with reports of missing persons and other horrible events. Many at the office believe Mr. Grendel is actually the savage monster of Beowulf fame, an ancient flesh eating Ogre with almost unlimited regeneration capabilities, the ability to slip between worlds, and the leader of an army of similar monsters who like to disguise themselves as clowns and jesters.

Our investigators have deduced that Grendel must have “eaten” a Cryptid and thus developed the energy signature to be targeted by the Crucible.

The Birthday Party

This is when things start getting REALLY weird. As our untransformed staff and surveillance devices reported that the “Boogeyman” (the most powerful Cryptid of all) began to create a physical Nightmare World on Earth, Grendel escaped his chamber, teleported in a horde of his “carnivorous clowns,” shouted “Happy Birthday!” and began devouring BOX crew and Cryptids alike. With each Cryptid he ate he grew in size and began developing previously unseen powers such as mind control and the ability to warp the environment around himself much as the Boogeyman was now capable of doing.

Apparently a quick search of our files indicate that the purported “birth” of Grendel was 524 AD making him 1500 years old today, so it may actually be his Birthday. Happy Birthday indeed Mr. Grendel!

Plan of Action

With the remaining Cryptids fleeing, or being consumed by the Boogeyman or Grendel it seems likely that these two creatures will soon be squaring off in a battle royale.  Leadership has suggested a “wait and see” plan.  So aside from rescuing staff, trying to lock down some of the more critical artifacts (Such as Buried Obelisk 10) all agents are requested not attend the “Birthday Party” even though our offices have been flooded with invitations from faxes, emails, texts and social media most likely sent from Grendel and his “clowns”
