So you have pieced together the clues, followed the trail of blood, and ended up here, in this lost and abandoned place. You want the truth about the Mangler, the fiend blamed for all of the missing persons and occasional mutilated corpses found in the area? I see the desire burning in your eyes… is it revenge you seek, or fame and fortune? No matter… If you have come this far I can help you with the final piece of the puzzle, but you might not like what it reveals. It all starts with a story about a boy named Victor…..

Victor was a strange boy. Intelligent beyond all measurement he totally lacked human emotion, and spent a good deal of his childhood dissecting and torturing animals to see how they worked. As he grew older he learned to hide this strangeness, to fit in, but always remained an outsider. In the fullness of time he became a brilliant surgeon, incredibly wealthy, respected by his peers and unmatched in skill but always lacking a certain bedside manner.

Seven years ago he had a difficult case, a beautiful young woman critically injured in an auto accident. Despite his best attempts Victor failed to save her life, and exhausted from the long surgery, bluntly and callously refused to mask his antipathy to the poor girls loved ones. Despondent and filled with rage at Victor’s failure, her fiancé (a local hoodlum) decided that the doctor was at fault and should pay. He jumped Victor in a back alley, breaking his bones with a lead pipe and lighting him on fire. Several years of hospitalization allowed Victor to walk again, but nerve damage had forever ended his “official” surgical career, and his ability to feel any sort of pain whatsoever.

Victor withdrew from society, his burned face and twisted frame now completing an absolute disassociation with the rest of mankind. Secretly he used his vast fortune to construct an underground complex in the sewers and sub basements of several abandoned industrial buildings. Now he spends his time doing what he did as a child…slowly and painfully making living things into piles of tortured flesh.

The twisted freaks, the drug fiends, and the depraved physicians who work for him are all there for their own reasons, but do they really understand Victor? Now swathed in dirty bandages, he haunts the sewer-like compound with only one plan; subjecting those who fall into his clutches to tortures and experiments beyond all human understanding. His goal is to carve out with his rusty scalpels and modified dental equipment some sort of understanding of the human condition. Why do they feel fear and pain and love? Somewhere hidden deep in the flesh is the answer, and no one can stand in the way of his quest for the truth.

For some he is a phantom, a nightmare, a legend, a living death. But to the reporters and policemen who seek him, occasionally finding the discarded remains of his latest subject, he is know simply as the MANGLER.
